PRESS RELEASE

Upon the request of Office for economic affairs of French Embassy in Zagreb, president of the Council of Competition, Mr. Stjepo Pranjic, Phd., held a meeting with Manager for international development of the company France Telecom Mr. Matthieu Coisne. The meeting was held on 9 November 2010 at 11 o’clock. The topic of the meeting was application of Competition Act in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

In the introductory part, Mr. Pranjic briefed Mr. Coisne on the work and role of the Council of Competition and accordingly pointed out positive effects of the implementation of relevant practice in Amendments of the Competition Act. Applying the Competition Act, Council of Competition prevents monopolistic position of the undertakings, especially in the form of abuse of dominant position, forbidden agreements – cartels, trusts and similar forms of holding.

Goal of the meeting was to introduce Mr. Coisne with the state of telecommunication sector in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the role of Competition Council as the body authorized for establishment of efficient market competition. Mr. Coisne was interested in the view of Council of Competition regarding the transaction of 51% market share of Telecom Srbija to Deutsche Telecom, bearing in mind the operators, already owned by Deutsche Telecom.

Mr. Pranjic explained that Council of Competition can not determine whether the transaction would distort market competition, i.e. violate the provisions of the Competition Act in Bosnia and Herzegovina without the prior proceedings before the Council of Competition and analysis of market information.
